TJ Lake Day Hike

TJ Lake is beautiful alpine lake, only a 0.8-mile hike from the picnic area at Lake George in Mammoth Lakes. Starting at 9,025 feet in elevation, most visitors plan on a leisurely pace, taking time for photography and wildlife viewing along the way. Hikers enjoy views of Lake George and Crystal Crag as they pass along the trail. TJ Lake makes a nice picnic destination as well as offering good fishing for rainbow trout.

The TJ Lake trailhead is the day use area at Lake George. There are vault toilets available at the trailhead but no drinking water. Find drinking water and flush toilets in the adjacent Lake George Campground.

TJ Lake Trail

From the day use area at Lake George, set out on the trail heading south. It soon begins to climb as it makes its way toward Lake Barrett. Just below Lake Barrett the trail divides. Take the right-hand trail along the west shore of the lake and come to another split in the trail. A sign points the way to the right. Soon after bypass an unmarked trail to the right. Begin another short climb to a low ridge before dipping down to scenic TJ Lake.
